The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) Southern Diocese joins the family, relatives, friends, and the Christian community in mourning the passing of Ms. Anitha Ndauka, a devoted servant and nurse at Ilembula Lutheran Hospital, who passed away on August 13, 2026, at Kibena Hospital.
The funeral service was held at Njombe Cathedral, officiated by the Assistant Bishop of the ELCT Southern Diocese, Rev. Dr. Johnson Lunanilo Gudaga, assisted by Rev. Nuru Kahwili, Head of Njombe District, and Rev. Sauli Mpimbi, Head of Ilembula District. Following the service, the late Ms. Ndauka was laid to rest at Mjimwema Cemetery in Njombe.
In his sermon, based on John Chapter 11, Rev. Dr. Gudaga emphasized the shortest yet deeply meaningful verse in Scripture, “Jesus wept” (John 11:35). He reminded the congregation that Christ’s example calls believers to walk alongside those who are hurting, offering compassion, encouragement, and hope.
“In today’s world, we need lives that accompany others, encourage one another, and stand with those whose hearts are broken in order to ease their pain. Speaking during the service, the General Secretary of the ELCT Southern Diocese described the late Anitha Ndauka as a dedicated and faithful servant who tirelessly offered first-aid and medical support during pastors’ conferences, diocesan synods, and many other official gatherings of the ELCT Southern Diocese.
“Ms. Ndauka faithfully served both the Church and the community with professionalism, humility, and a servant’s heart. Her commitment to caring for others made a lasting impact on our Diocese, and her legacy of service will continue to inspire us,” the General Secretary said.
The ELCT Southern Diocese extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Anitha Ndauka, the staff of Ilembula Lutheran Hospital, and all those affected by this great loss. The Diocese prays that God will grant them comfort, strength, and peace during this time of mourning.
